Debbie is never sure how to answer the question, "Where are you from?" as she was delighted to be a military dependent moving every few years. But, she's lived in Utah longer than anywhere else now, so it is home. She came to Utah for an education at Brigham Young University earning a BS in Zoology in preparation for medical school. That next step was put on an indefinite hold and she discovered teaching in the meantime including earning a second degree in early childhood from Utah Valley University.
Debbie has taught at a child development center, in outdoor education, as an educational docent at the zoo and operated her own preschool for 10 years. Her favorite part of teaching is sharing stories and has a nice collection of children's literature.
She first came to MSA as a parent three years ago, volunteering as a library aide. Today, she serves as the Librarian and a Library Committee member overseeing Readers Arena. Her passion for books allows her to travel through space and time without ever leaving her seat, and she hopes to inspire in children the same hunger for stories. She envisions the library as “a life-enhancing palace of wonder,” both in principle and in reality.
Debbie's days are filled with her busy family of six children and husband of 26 years, volunteering and serving with various humanitarian organizations, reading, singing, preserving the stories of her amazing ancestors and living out nostalgic notions of tending chickens, fruit trees and a garden.
