Title 1

● Passed in 1965 under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act

(ESEA). It is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s

schools

● These supplemental funds provide students the opportunity to receive a

fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and help close educational and

achievement gaps

Mountain Sunrise Academy receives “Targeted Assistance” funds, thus is required to

hold an Annual Title 1 meeting in order to:

● Share the Parent Engagement Policy

● Share the School Improvement Plan

● Explain that TA funds are supplemental and are used to provide students with the

opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high quality education, and help to

close educational achievement gaps

Mountain Sunrise Academy will:

● Include parents in the decision making

● Provide Information to parents

● Build the capacity of parents and staff for strong family engagement

● MSA will be holding School Community Council meetings every other first

Friday of the month for collaboration on schoolwide programs and goals

○ This will begin December 5th, 2025

Participation in Title 1


How does Mountain Sunrise Academy use Title 1 Funding?

● Our Targeted Assistance funds ALL go towards the salary of an SST Staff member

● SST, or Student Support Team, is an intervention team designed to help students

who are not meeting academic benchmarks as determined by Acadience

assessments, diagnostic assessments, or other intervention data

● This supports MSA’s Early Learning Plan goal focusing on improving foundational

skills in grades K-6

Right of Parents to Be Involved

The Annual Title 1 meeting MUST inform parents and family members of their right to be involved in their

student’s education. MSA is also required to provide parents with an overview of the following requirements:

● A description and explanation of the curriculum and assessments used to measure student success:

○ RISE (grades 3-6)

■ Yearly comprehensive assessment of grade-level benchmarks in math, language arts, and science

○ Acadience Math and Reading (grades K-6)

■ Administered three times per year (beginning, middle, and end of year)

■ Universal screener to identify students at risk for reading or math deficits

● Includes monthly progress monitoring for students below benchmark


○ Diagnostic Assessment

■ I-ready; personalized learning assessment

○ Information on the child’s achievement and growth through Progress Reports given at the end of each term; four terms over the

calendar school year


● Opportunities for regular meetings, if requested, to provide suggestions and participate, as appropriate in

decisions relating to their children

● Timely notice if their child has been assigned to , or taught, for 4 or more consecutive weeks by a teacher

who is not state qualified

Fluency (WWR)

● Ongoing professional learning in the area of rigor

● Job embedded instructional coaching with all first grade teachers

● Common focused instructional time

● Common assessments to be reviewed in a structured weekly PLC
